Mother’s best friend

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the nutritional requirements of women are far higher than during any other time of their lives. A few examples:

Quality makes the difference

In no other food like in Moringa are there are so many vital substances in such elevated concentrations and in such optimal compositions.

In a series of assessments at the University of La Laguna (Tenerife), the Red Moringa trees of this region were analysed by taking samples of the dry powder of the tree. The data of the Tenerife Moringas was not only superior to the Moringa samples from other regions, but also greater than in any studies found to Moringa (see details below).

The Moringa leaf powder is well known for its high content of polyphenols. These function as antioxidants and free radicals. Free radicals and oxidative stress develop from negative environmental effects, stress, intense workouts and hyperacidity. As well they are the cause of many illnesses.

The leaf powder of our Red Moringas has a spectacular polyphenol content of 4.3 g – a 400% higher polyphenol content compared to other Moringas from other countries. The ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) test also reveal the content of antioxidants. Additionally in this red leaf powder were found an ORAC data of up to 115,000 TE μmol/100g. Compared to the phenomenal goji berries which reach only 25,000 ORAC points and are top of the world data, our product is way higher in value.

As well our Red Moringa (selection) contains 904 mg Vitamin C per 100g Moringa Powder. According to findings the Moringa powder contains 17-27 mg Vitamin C. The Moringa of Tenerife contains 33 times more Vitamin C than the normal content.

But why is this difference so significant?

 

Quality Difference Part I: Climate, Soil and Environment

We have asked the Botanical Institute in Gran Canaria (Canary Islands) why this difference is so significant. The high value of vitamins and polyphenols of the Moringa plant is caused by the climate of Tenerife. Hot desert winds, sand, dust blown from the African Sahara paired with the extreme strong influence of the sun in this 28 degree latitude make the Moringa plants adjust to the extreme circumstances. The plant protects itself from strong winds, light and food enemies. The result is a higher proportion of vitamins (especially Vitamin E, Beta-Carotene and, to a lesser extent Vitamin A), and polyphenols and also mustard seed oil glycosides. All these nutrients have a big influence in the nutrition of humans.

Besides the climate, the different soil of different growing areas also has an influence on the quality of Moringa. The nutrient rich volcanic earth and the outstanding location of Tenerife in the middle of the Atlantic, 100 km away from contamination heavy industry and air pollution, help the plants to grow fast and without any contamination.

Amino Acids

Carotinoide

Many illnesses such as arteriosclerosis, rheumatism, Alzheimer’s disease, cancers, Parkinson’s, blindness and even skin aging can be prevented. Most of them appear as antioxidants. The anticancer effect of the carotinoide derives from the functional communication between the cells. In our eyes, skin, liver and fat tissue there is a higher concentration of the carotinoide than other tissues. As well as for the other secondary plant substances the carotinoide is recommended not to be taken as an extracted, high concentrated supplement, but as a natural combination with other nutrition ingredients. The use of high concentration of supplements has been known to cause health problems.

Lutein & Zeaxanthin

Spectacular values were found of lutein with 259 mg/kg and Zeaxanthin with 14 mg/kg. These substances are important for a regular eye function and maintaining healthy vision. How much & how to take Moringa?

Moringa is not medication but simply a type of food. Therefore there are no strict guidelines of how much to take. Generally, the recommended intake for Moringa largely depends on its quality and drying process.

Our Red and Premium qualities both are of pure leaves – without sprigs and leaf-stalks and are grown without the use of any pesticides, processed and gently dried with utmost care and top notch technology in order to keep all vital elements. They are strong, intense in taste and do contain many bitter and spicy substances as well as mustard oil glycosides that stimulate digestion. Likely they are stronger than any Moringa you have tried before and you may have to take less than what you have taken before.

We recommend to take 3-5g over the course of the day mixed with all kinds of foods and drinks. As some nutrients are destroyed by heat and others are activated by it, ideally 1/3 should be consumed raw and 2/3 should be added as a an ingredient to your cooked dishes. Test different amounts, different ways to take it while listening to your body.

And yes, you can take Moringa in capsules but then you miss out on valuable nutrients that are only activated through heat such as many of Moringa’s polyphenols which are the most important vital elements that our bodies need.

If you are new to Moringa you should start slowly and increase intake over the course of several days. And if you are sensitive, cook with Moringa rather than take it in raw form. Heat destroys the mustard oil glycosides to a large extent and activates polyphenols – free radicals catcher. However, using raw Moringa as a seasoning you get all the vitamins that are reduced through the cooking heat.

Cooking with Moringa is easy: You can add Moringa pretty much to anything.You can add Moringa to scrambled eggs or pancakes. Just this morning we had banana pancakes (4 eggs mashed with 2 ripe bananas and a teaspoon Moringa) served with maple sirup and berries.
